Tips to use Facebook Marketplace

Good morning!  Last week I took the plunge and decided to use Facebook Marketplace to sell some of our larger items that we don't want to move next month.  Truth be told, I dreaded using the Marketplace.  I hate Facebook.  But, I knew I needed these items gone.  Well, it's working!  Stuff is flying out of our house.

If you haven't used it before, and need to sell stuff, I'd recommend it.  It's easy to use.  And you get to clear clutter.

Once you click on Marketplace, it will bring you to the "home" screen.  This is where you can browse to buy things, or click on "sell something".  That's my favorite button 😄

It will bring you here.  Click on the blue box.  Or orange if you're selling a vehicle 😉

Put in all your information.  Don't forget to add your pictures.

After you have all your items you want to sell, you can click on "Selling" to see your items and the traffic conversations.

At the bottom it will show you your sold items.  This is where you can remark the item as available if needed.  What I also do is after the item is picked up, I click on manage and delete the item.

My Tips:

1.  List your items at least $20 higher than you plan to sell them for.  Everyone wants a bargain so when they come back $20 less than you want, you go up $10, you get the price you wanted in the end.  And sometimes, they won't haggle and you get a little extra 😉

2.  List all the details upfront.  Colors, model numbers, measurements, condition, special features.  If you think they'll ask, list it.

3.  When someone says the want the item and you get the feeling they are truly serious, mark the item as sold.  If you don't you'll continue to get bombarded with requests.  I learned this lesson on my second day of selling items.  If the item doesn't happen to get picked up (hasn't happened {yet} to me), you can always remark the item as available.

4.  List a few items at a time.  I have over twenty things I want to sell.  But, I'm listing them in batches of 5.  It's easier to keep track of the traffic.  I've had a few items that sold fast and had a lot of traffic.  I wrote down the item, the price, and the name of the person coming to pick up the item.

5.  Go with your senses on having people come to your house.  If you don't have a good feeling, call the deal off.  Your lives are more important than a sale.  Or you can meet in a public place if the item is easily movable.

Following the sale of a few items, I received a video of a buyer's son riding the four wheeler; a sweet message from both ladies who bought the BOB and Baby Jogger strollers, and a nice lady teaching us some basics in Spanish 😀

Nick has been making fun of me (in a nice way) and telling me to sell everything.  I'm not, just all the stuff we don't use or need.  Dare I say, it's kind of fun too?!!

Have you used marketplace?  Did you like it?
