Sick edition and everything in between

There have been more times than not over the past 2 months that someone has been sick.  All from the low grade fevers to extremely high fevers, from colds to bronchitis and upper respiratory infections.  It’s been eventful in this house.  These past 3 weeks has been extremely rough.

This is going to be an extremely long post.  Here goes!

November 24th:  Xander woke up with a low grade fever of 101.8, but he was complaining that he had a headache, bellyache, and sore throat.  These are usually his signs for strep so I took him straight to the walk in clinic on base.  They tested him for strep and flu.  After an hour of waiting, his tests were negative.  We headed home and stayed on top of Tylenol and Motrin to keep his fever down.  It never got below 100, and the next day (Nov 25th) his fever was up at 104.5 (I always take his temp 30 minutes after he wakes up so they are most accurate)!  I called up to his pediatrician and she wanted me to keep pushing the Tylenol and Motrin every 3 hours.  She also wanted me to keep an eye on his breathing since his temp was so high and he wasn’t complaining of any symptoms this day.  His fever broke below 103.  (Nov 26th) he still woke up with a 104.3 fever.  I think this was his most miserable day.  Although he was looking forward to eating ham and macaroni for dinner (he only at the macaroni, I think his throat was hurting, but he wouldn’t say it did).  (Nov 27th) at 920 am his fever was at 105!  At 1005 he was back in the hospital.  They did test/exam after exam and nothing was coming back to indicate what was going on. He was miserable.  They gave him azithromycin since he’s allergic to amoxicillin and it started working right away.  He hated the taste of it and complained (really screamed) that it hurt his tongue.  (Nov 28th) He woke up with a 103.2 fever.  It’s going down!  He had to miss ice lessons and didn’t like that.  (Nov 29th) Fever down to 102.3.  But around 1pm, his fever was gone until he went to bed.  He was getting back to his normal self.  No school for him tomorrow.  He was so sad. (Nov 30th)  98.0!  Woohoo!  All our prayer warriors, thank you!  He made a little video, but the settings here have changed for adding them, and I can’t figure it out Sad smile.

(He’s so miserable on the morning of the 29th, look at his sweet face Sad smile)

November 25th:  Sterling has loved having her hair in 2 ponies lately and on this day she also choose 2 different hair pieces.  Totally a mind of her own.
I mentioned in the last post that I have slowly start pulling out Christmas décor.  I put out my smoker from Germany and love it!

November 26th:  Happy Thanksgiving!  We stayed busy.  Learning, decorating, creating, and baking.  So much fun going around the table at dinner saying what we were thankful for this year.  I started with saying I was thankful for our health, being able to take care of ourselves, and seeing doctors when we need.  Xander went next and said he was thankful for his family.  Sterling said she was thankful mommy, daddy, hawkeye and bubba.  Nick was thankful to all be together.

Xander didn’t last too long, but he wanted to do it so I let him.  After he was done, he cuddled up on my lap.  His favorite!

painting ornaments.  they both painted two.

Had a “family night” as Sterling calls it and watched Home Alone for the first time (and then 5 times more before our rental expired!!)  Kids loved it, as did we, but who don’t?!

November 28th:  Sterling went to ice lessons while Bubba stayed home to get better.

November 30th:  Look who’s better!  He was so happy that morning (minus missing school from the day prior fever).  What a relief.

It also snowed for the first time that morning.  I had a dental appointment this morning to pick up my night guard. I grind. I know, bad!  I’m damaging my back teeth so I finally bought one.  While at my appointment they begged me to play in the parking lot and shovel when they got home. I said sure, it could do Bubs good.  Fresh air is the best medicine, right?

December 1st: Welcome December!  We had our special visitor from Candy Cane Lane, North Pole show up with a very special breakfast.  Kids loved it.
I’ve been bad at taking pictures.  He’s been in the tree, sitting on the picture ledge, in the fridge holding their milk hostage, in the cupboard wrapped around their favorite breakfast (oatmeal), and sitting in chairs.  He’s only not came twice (so far).  Yesterday (10th) was the most fun I think.  They just stood in front of their sink looking at elf and all their toys taking a bath.  Today (11th) elf is showed up with a countdown until Santa arrives.  These kids have been asking how many more days.  How many more days?!  They cry it.  Oh my word, I hope this countdown works. He even left them a note what to do. I hope it works!!!

I came home from work (on 1st) with an itchy right eye.  (The start to my sickness journey) It was starting to turn pink and so I think pink eye since I work with kiddos.  There's always a sick kid at school, always!  Lucky me, I know.  I headed up to urgent care to get it examined and she concluded that it was just a cold and it was passing through my eye.  She gave me an allergy drop and told me to take Claritin. (2nd) I woke up and my eye was swollen shut and a little sticky (not green or yellow, just clear).  It was also really pink and constant watering.  I texted my boss to make sure I could come to work looking crazy and that I was at the doc and she had cleared me I was okay to work.  So I went in.  Within 45 minutes of taking Claritin, the swelling went down dramatically.  By early afternoon, I could feel the swelling come back, but couldn’t take more Claritin because it was a 24 hour dose.  (3rd) Again, woke up and it was swollen and sticky.  I went to work again. The eye drops were not taking the pink away, and the Claritin didn’t keep the swelling down. It was still really watery.  I called up to the doctor to let her know my symptoms weren’t getting better.  She prescribed me ciprofloxacin.  I was to put 1 drop in the eye 4 times a day.  By the time I’d gotten it and gone to bed, I did it twice.  (4th)  Really bad watering eye.  It was so annoying.  Before heading out to work that evening for Parents Night Out, I noticed my left eye was starting to itch and turn pink.  I put in the eye drops to try to prevent the eye from getting worse.  (5th)  Both eyes are swollen shut and sticky.  I apply the eye drops in both eyes.  I’m miserable this day.  Constantly wiping both eyes from the facet that poured the water.  Both eyes out of commission and just overall sucks!  I also started having a sore throat and congestion. (6th) Couldn’t sleep from my sore throat and coughing all night.  I go back to urgent care and she looks in my eyes and says that I have allergic conjunctivitis and that my conjunctiva was swollen (the layering over my eye).  It’s not contagious and I can go to work. What a relief! She prescribed me new eye drops. Lotemax (1 drop 4 x day) and Pataday (1 drop 1 x day).  (7th)  I’m a miserable mess.  I didn’t get much relief from the drops this day, but I didn’t think they’d work immediately.  At least the Claritin was reliable.  (8th)  I was supposed to work but since Sterling had a fever the day prior, she had to stay home, and Nick got called into work last minute. It ended up being a good thing I stayed with her because I was on my death bed.  Like really.  I woke up and was so dizzy, I couldn’t stand or walk without holding onto something.  Everything was spinning.  I took some Tylenol hoping the throbbing head pressure I had in the back of my head would go away, but nothing worked.  I finally had approval in the late afternoon to head up to Urgent Care.  An hour later, and I had a fever (which I didn’t think I did, but it was 101), dizziness, upper respiratory infection with deep wheezing in my right lunch, and bronchitis.  I did a breathing treatment, not fun at all!  It gave me the chills so bad.  After I got home, my fever had gone up to 102.8, so I took more Tylenol, took some strong medicine and went to sleep (which didn’t keep me asleep like the doctor promised). The doctor prescribed me prednisone, azithromycin, and cheratussin AC.  (9th) I felt a whole lot better.  Not completely better, but not knocking on deaths door either.  I laid in bed much of the day, shopping and going through old pictures.  Fun times.  (10th)  I feel normal.  I still have a nagging cough and an occasional wheeze, but I’m good.  I still have 3 more days of my meds, but I’m going to work today!

December 3rd: Someone woke up with big hair.  I love her freshly washed big hair.

December 4th: She worked out with her daddy.  She lifted weights and worked on stretching.

December 5th: Sterling’s turn.  This girl woke up with a 101 fever.  She acted normal the rest of the day and her fever remained low.

December 6th:  She had a hard time staying awake, but didn’t complain of any pain.  Just a high fever 102.3-103.6 throughout the day.

December 7th: We took Bubs to school and before leaving Sterling had a hard time keeping her eyes open (just like the day prior). After dropping Bubs off at school, she threw up in the van. We got her cleaned up and she wanted to put her pajamas on.  Her fever was up to 103.4 but by early afternoon it was back below 100.

December 8th:  She woke up fever free! Thank God hers was short lived!

December 9th:  I had a doctors note for no work, so we all stayed home and huddled in my bed.

December 10th:  No work again, but, I felt better, so much better, now (Doc McStuffin's anyone, lol)!  I even ran a few errands.  We needed milk.  Xander had been begging me that he needs to bring something in a box for Project Santa so we headed to Target to get him and Sterling stuff to put in the box for little boys and girls who may not get a Christmas otherwise.  I love Xander’s big heart. He wanted to spend $60 and buy a little boy a batcave imagintex toy.  So sweet of him!
After getting home, we had lunch, took breaks and I wrapped presents.
The kids played with my spare supplies after break time was over.  They pretended they were wrapping gifts too.

Then they found a big roll of paper and I wrapped them in it like a present and they popped out of it.  Over and over!

And I stuck the presents under the tree.  I still have more to wrap, just ran out of time.

 Have a great day!
